Elinor Carucci, 1971, is a photographer from Israel. She photographs her own life. She pays attention to details and makes the audience into a voyeur of her life. The photographs can at some points be confronting and uncomforting as there is no shame in them. The photographs are very recognizable from anyone's life and have a poetic feel to them. The following pictures are from the series: Closer, Crisis and from her latest project about her children.
I love her work! I did a presentation on her collections this past fall semester for my documentary class. I just appreciated the rawness of her images.
The target of this website is embedded in its name; to post active image-makers until we reach 500 photographers. The photographers can be from any discipline within the photographic range, but they have to be worth looking at and have a certain level of quality. When we get to number 500, we will have a deep database of great photographers.
500 photographers is done by Pieter Wisse, a photographer himself based in Rotterdam, NL. For three years (2009-2012) he was the founder and owner of Four Eyes Photography & Art, a gallery and bookstore based in his hometown that also released Four Eyes Photography Magazine.
Once this website reaches photographer #500 it will be finished and done. It will then only be here with the function of being an archive of amazing photographers of the 21st century.
Support 500 Photographers
500 Photographers needs your help. 500 Photographers has become close to a fulltime job and is truly a pleasure to make. However, it does not generate any income and the financial situation has become a worry. Your donation and support would be of great help for this project.
You can support the project by buying my book or just by donating an amount to your choice. I will be forever grateful. Thank you for reading this statement.
Suggestions
Do you have a suggestion for this list? Are you a photographer and you want to suggest yourself?
During the last 50 photographers of 500 Photographers we have a special offer. Not €29,95 but only €18,50. Order your signed copy of the photography book 'I Believe in 88' by Pieter Wisse here. After a violent encounter with a group of neo-nazis at the age of 14 where Wisse was stabbed in the stomach, he decided to take a closer look at the daily life of the people that call themselves neo-nazis in former East Germany, a group of people at the edge of our society.
