Christopher Anderson, 1970, Canada/USA, is an all rounded photographer who is well-known for his documentary / photo-journalistic work. He has traveled extensively to conflict zones throughout the world as Israel, Afghanistan and Haiti. He photographed these conflicts from a personal point of view. In 2009 he released the book Capitolio, a cinematic journey into Caracas, Venezuela. "He notates the country's current incongruities, where the violent and the sensual intermingle chaotically." (Magnum Photos) A recent body of work is called Son. He photographed his wife, his son and his father who was ill with cancer. Due to the birth of his son and several other happenings Christopher has decided to step away from war photography. Son is a very intimate and emotional project, touching themes as the cycle of life. It is a project that defines the real reasons for our existence and our drive as human beings. Christopher joined Magnum Photos in 2005 and became a full member in 2010. He has worked on commercial fashion shoots and had portrait sessions with people as Lady Gaga, Lance Armstrong and Al Pacino. The following images come from his book projects Son and Capitolio and from his story on Bethlehem.

500 photographers is a weblog that posts 5 active photographers a week for 100 weeks. The photographers can be from any discipline within the photographic range, but they have to be worth looking at and have a certain level of quality. When we get to number 500, we will have a deep database of great photographers.
500 photographers is done by Pieter Wisse, a photographer himself based in Rotterdam, NL and owner of Four Eyes Photography & Art, a gallery and bookstore that publishesFour Eyes Photography Magazine and recently published I believe in 88, the photography book by Pieter Wisse.
100 weeks from the start (April 5, 2010) this weblog will be finished and done. It will then only be here with the function of being an archive of amazing photographers of the 21st century.
Support 500 Photographers
500 Photographers needs your help. 500 Photographers has become close to a fulltime job and is truly a pleasure to make. However, it does not generate any income and the financial situation has become a worry. Your donation and support would be of great help for this project.
You can support the project by buying my book or just by donating an amount to your choice. I will be forever grateful. Thank you for reading this statement.
Suggestions
Do you have a suggestion for this list? Are you a photographer and you want to suggest yourself?
Order your signed copy of the photography book 'I Believe in 88' by Pieter Wisse here. After a violent encounter with a group of neo-nazis at the age of 14 where Wisse was stabbed in the stomach, he decided to take a closer look at the daily life of the people that call themselves neo-nazis in former East Germany, a group of people at the edge of our society.
