Photographer #195: Tony Kelly

Tony Kelly, 1975, Ireland, lives in Barcelona and works all over the world. He makes sexually charged photographes that are so bright in colour that they resemble candies that might either be sweet or sour. His carreer started as a papparazzo and later as a warzone photographer. Now Tony is all into the fashion photography, although most of the work evolves around nude women. Tony likes to shock a little, but it needs to be a shock with a smile. Humour is one of the key points in Kelly's photography. As a photographer that prefers working on location as to a closed studio it is no wonder he is slightly in love with the plastic, sunny and "cultureless" Los Angeles. The following images come from Toy Story, El Pais Miss World and Hollywood.

Photographer #194: Sonja Braas

Sonja Braas, 1968, Germany, lives and works in New York. In her series The Quiet of Dissolution Sonja shows us various natural catastrophes, but in a way that we have never seen before. The viewer begins to wonder how she got so close to the disasters and how she continuously get's a certain serenity in her photographs. Sonja actually builds the scenes herself in a studio as idealized models of reality. In her series You Are Here she took pictures of zoological gardens and natural science museums and put them alongside images of real landscapes. This confuses the viewer when attempting to figure out what is real and what is not. The following images come from the series The Quiet of Dissolution, Forces and You Are Here.

Photographer #185: Nicolas Dhervillers

Nicolas Dhervillers, 1981, France, is a photographer that keeps fooling it's viewers. What appears as reality is actually a fabricated reality. In his series Tourist he has taken night pictures of remote places in which he relights certain parts creating "non-places". He then went on the internet searching for the most banal holiday snap possible. He combines the two images letting the people be tourists in his images. In the series Préfiguration, Nicolas photographed visitors in the Pompidou Centre in Paris and put them into spaces of the building site of the future Pompidou Centre in Metz. Photographer #179: Aaron Hobson

Aaron Hobson, 1977, USA, is also known as the Cinemascapist. He grew up in one of the poorest city neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. Today he lives in a small town in the remote Adirondack Mountains near the Canadian border. Since four years he has started taking images. He calls his photography Cinemascapes. They are semi-autobiographical, dealing with old memories together with his current living situation. His panoramic self-portraits are intentionally cinematic to reflect our modern technologically driven culture. His stories are open-ended, but do have an underlying purpose. Writer John Wood wrote about Aaron's work; "that his imagery exudes sexuality and danger, those two narcotics we never seem to be able to get out of our systems." The following images come from his portfolio.
