Richard Mosse, Ireland, 1980, finds beauty in things that are broken and in a state of decay. He went to Iraq where he made his series Breach and Nomads. He approaches the objects as sculptures instead of acts of war and drama. He has done the same in his series The Fall, where he travelled across the globe to photograph crashed airplanes. In the project Infra, he left for Congo to take images with infrared film. The images are not digitally manipulated. The following images come from Infra, The Fall and Nomads.
The target of this website is embedded in its name; to post active image-makers until we reach 500 photographers. The photographers can be from any discipline within the photographic range, but they have to be worth looking at and have a certain level of quality. When we get to number 500, we will have a deep database of great photographers.
500 photographers is done by Pieter Wisse, a photographer himself based in Rotterdam, NL. For three years (2009-2012) he was the founder and owner of Four Eyes Photography & Art, a gallery and bookstore based in his hometown that also released Four Eyes Photography Magazine.
Once this website reaches photographer #500 it will be finished and done. It will then only be here with the function of being an archive of amazing photographers of the 21st century.
